After replacing the toner, the message “Replace toner” continues to appear on the screen.

A new ready-to-use toner cartridge must be installed to clear the error message. Brother strongly recommends that you use genuine Brother toner cartridges. The Brother toner cartridge is manufactured with a reset lever, which moves once installed in the device and automatically triggers the device to reset the toner status. Why does the message “Replace toner” continue to appear on the screen after replacing the toner?

Resetting the Brother Toner Container

Is a new ready-to-use toner cartridge (TN331 or TN336) from a sealed aluminum bag installed in the machine?

  • Yes, if a new toner cartridge has been installed, proceed to step 4.
  • If the old toner cartridge is not installed, proceed to step 3.

Next, a new ready-to-use toner cartridge must be installed to reset the toner status and clear the error message.

You should not install a used toner cartridge that has been installed on another machine. Also, do not install the entry-level TN toner container that came with this machine.

The Brother toner cartridge is manufactured with a reset lever, which moves once installed in the machine. Therefore, movement of the lever mechanically triggers the machine to reset the toner status. If a waste toner cartridge or TN input toner cartridge is installed in the machine, it will not trigger the toner reset.

Brother toner cartridges

Brother strongly recommends that customers use only genuine Brother drum units and toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to operate at a pre-set temperature that exactly matches each toner formulation. Each individual component is designed to work together to ensure quality and reliability. The use of non-Brother consumables may affect device performance, print quality and machine reliability. The Brother Limited Warranty does not apply to problems caused by the use of third party toner cartridges, toner cartridges or toner cartridges.

Error Message – “Replacement Toner

After installing the new toner, the “replacement toner” has never been erased. Afterwards, it continues to appear immediately on the screen, or is the “replacement toner” a new ink cartridge that is erased after installation and reappears later after use?

  • If “Replace toner” was never erased from the screen immediately after installing a new ink cartridge, go to step 5.

If the “Replace Toner” message disappears immediately after replacing the toner cartridge, then return it after use. Then, please refer to: I have recently installed a new toner cartridge, but I think the toner cartridge has not reached full usage.

After replacing the toner, the message “Replace toner” will continue to appear on the screen.
