How to reset Brother printers for TN-221 and TN-225 series

Solution to reset your Brother printer (TN-221 and TN-225)

There is a solution, depending on the printer model, HL, DCP or MFC, you need to perform some reset operations so that the device recognizes that the ink cartridge is full. Then, once this step is completed correctly, you can use the device and print normally.

So, before performing the reset procedure, make sure you have installed the ink cartridges according to Brother’s instructions in the manual. In this sense, Brother’s recommendations vary depending on the machine. Also, if you have installed the ink cartridge correctly according to Brother’s recommendations, but your ink cartridge is still not recognized, please follow the instructions below to perform the proper reset procedure.

 

Brother HL-3140CW and HL-3170CDW printer

  • Make sure the printer is turned on
  • Lift the front cover of the printer to access the ink cartridges.
  • After lifting the cover, press the “Safe” and “Cancel / Stop” buttons at the same time
  • The LCD screen will display the reset menu
  • Scroll through the menu to select the color and yield reset
  • Once the reset is complete, the LCD screen will display “Accept”.

How to reset Brother printers for TN-221 and TN-225 series:

  • Make sure the printer is turned on
  • If an error message appears on the LCD, press the Reset / Delete (X) key to display the main menu
  • Press the Fax key to display the numeric keypad
  • Determine and remember the position of the asterisk (*) on the numeric keypad. It is important to remember its location, as the keypad will not light up if needed later.
  • Press the Home button to return to the main menu
  • Lift the front cover of the printer to access the ink cartridges
  • After lifting the cover, press and hold the star button for about 5 seconds
  • The reset menu will now appear on the LCD screen
  • Scroll through the menu to select the color (K, C, M, Y). Then output to reset STD: standard capacity cartridge (TN-221 series), HC: high capacity cartridge (TN-225 series)
  • When the reset is complete, the LCD screen will display “Accept”.

How to reset Brother printers for TN-221 and TN-225 series :

  • Make sure the printer is turned on
  • Open the printer cover to reveal the toner cartridge
  • Press and hold the star (*) key for five (5) seconds (keep the cover open)
  • The LCD screen should display a new menu.
  • Scroll through the menu to select the color (K, C, M, Y) and output to reset STD: standard capacity cartridge (TN-221 series), HC: high capacity cartridge (TN-225 series)
  • Restart ? Select “Yes” on the screen.
  • Close the printer cover.

Alternative: If the asterisk (*) key does not work, please use the pound/number symbol instead
