Why should I activate the “continuous printing” mode?
The life of the Brother TN-420, TN-450 or TN-630, TN-660 toner cartridges depends on whether they can continue to achieve guaranteed print quality. If you choose to continue printing with a toner cartridge that has exceeded its estimated life, you can print by activating the “Continue” mode.

You can continue to print beyond the estimated life of the toner cartridge by activating the “Continuous Mode”. To enable or disable Continuous Mode, follow these steps: Press Menu.
- Once the “Replace Toner” message on the machine’s display or status monitor indicates that the toner cartridge needs to be replaced. The “continue” mode will force the machine to continue printing.
- When you use the “continue” mode to print beyond the rated life of the toner cartridge; the print quality may deteriorate.
- Since print quality cannot be guaranteed in the “Replace Toner” state in Continue mode, when printing the received fax, the device will ask you if the print quality of the fax is good.
- If the quality is poor, press (No) and the fax will be stored in the device’s memory so that you can print again after replacing the toner cartridge with a new one.
- If the print quality is good, press (Yes) and the device screen will ask if you want to delete the printed fax from memory.
- In Continue mode, the display screen and the device status monitor will continue to indicate the status of the toner cartridge. This is done by displaying the message “Toner low”, “Replace toner” or “Toner out”.
- The “Toner low” message indicates that once the toner cartridge has reached its estimated life and the maximum life of the toner cartridge. In addition, the “continue” mode has been activated to force the machine to continue printing. Thus, the toner cartridge must be replaced with a new one before the machine can continue printing.
- After a new toner cartridge is installed, this mode will automatically turn off.
To activate the “continuous” mode on your Brother printer, follow these steps:
- Press Menu, (General Settings). Then press (Replace Toner).
- Select Continue and press OK.
- Press stop or exit.
