When the corona wire of the drum needs to be cleaned, the message “Drum error, slide the green tab on the drum” appears. What should I do? How do I remove the “DRUM ERROR” error message? The LED lights on the printer control panel indicate “Drum Error”. Even though I have cleaned the corona wire, the error message does not disappear. What can I do about this?
Steps to remove error messages
- Clean the corona wires from the four colors of the drum.
- Use the recessed handle in the center to lift the top cover until you hear a click.
The top cover must be fully open before attempting to remove or install consumables. If the top cover is not fully open, it may be difficult to install or remove consumables or damage the machine.
- Grasp the center of the drum and toner cartridge assembly and pull it up to remove the four drum and toner cartridge assemblies. Be sure to place the components on disposable paper to prevent toner from spilling or spreading.
- On each part, locate the green tab at the top left. Gently slide the green slider to the left and right several times to clean the main corona wire of the image drum. Before reinstalling the components on the machine, be sure to return the green tab to its original position. If the green tab is not restored to its original position, vertical stripes may appear on the printed page.
Note: How to remove the “DRUM ERROR” error message
Perform this step for all four drum / toner sets.
- Reinstall the image drum and toner container by sliding the image drum and toner container into the unit. Ensure that the color of the toner container matches the same color label on the device.
- Close the top cover of the machine. When the top cover is fully closed, you will hear a loud noise.
- If the message continues to appear and your machine is under warranty, you can find an Authorized Brother Service Center (ASC) in your area.
You can also contact the Brother Customer Service Center Monday through Friday (except holidays).
- If your unit is not covered by warranty, you can use the information above to find an Authorized Brother Service Center.
- If the problem persists, the drum indicates that it needs to be replaced and you can reset the counter by following the steps below. However, if you notice that the quality of the printed pages has deteriorated, replace the image drum immediately.
When you replace the old image drum with a new image drum, you must reset the image drum counter by following the steps below:
- Press Menu => Machine Information. Reset Menu => Reset Menu.
- Press the up or down arrow key to select the color of the image drum you want to replace. Press OK.
- And press 1 to reset the drum counter.
- And again press Stop / Exit.
