
When you replace the toner cartridge in your Brother printer, your toner cartridge may not be recognized. The printer will indicate that the “empty cartridge” or “toner” light continues to flash. Before performing the reset procedure, first ensure that the ink cartridges have been installed according to Brother’s instructions in the manual. Brother’s instructions vary from machine to machine. Reset Brother Printers HL-3140CW and HL-3170CDW
- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- Lift the front cover of the printer to remove the ink cartridge.
- After lifting the cover, press the “Security” and “Cancel / Stop” buttons at the same time.
- At this time, the LCD screen will display the reset menu.
- Scroll through the menu to select the color and then reset the output.
- When the reset is completed, the LCD monitor will display “Accept”.

- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- If an error message appears on the LCD monitor, press the Cancel / Delete (X) key to display the main menu.
- Press the FAX key to display the numeric keypad.

- Press the Home button to return to the main menu.
- Lift the front cover of the printer to remove the ink cartridge.
- After closing, press and hold the star (star) button for approximately 5 seconds.
- The reset menu will now appear on the LCD screen.
- Navigate the menu to select the color (K, C, M, Y), then select the output to be reset STD: Standard Capacity Cartridge (TN-221 series), HC: High Capacity Cartridge (TN-225 series)
- Once the reset is complete, the LCD screen will display “Accept”.
Reset Brother Printers Multifunction MFC-9330CDW
- Make sure the printer is turned on.
- Open the printer cover and check the toner container.
- Press and hold the asterisk (*) key for five (5) seconds (leave the cover open).
- The LCD screen should display a new menu.
- Navigate through the menu to select the color (K, C, M, Y), then select the output to be reset STD: Standard Capacity Cartridge (TN-221 Series), HC: High Capacity Cartridge (TN-225 Series)
- Reset ? Select “Yes” when it appears on the screen.
- Close the printer cover.
Alternative method: If the asterisk key (*) does not work, please use the hash / number symbol instead.
