Reset Low Toner Message on HL Series Printers – Brother strongly recommends that customers use only Brother original toner cartridges and/or toner cartridges. Each Brother laser printer is designed to operate at a predefined temperature that exactly matches each of our toner formulations. Each individual component is designed to work together to ensure quality and reliability. Therefore, the use of non-Brother consumables can affect the performance of the device, the print quality and the reliability of the machine. Therefore, the Brother limited warranty does not apply to problems caused by the use of third party toner cartridges. Here’s how to reset the DR720 drum or your TN750 or TN780 cartridge.

Note to reset your Brother printer for your cartridges:
- If the toner cartridge on another machine has been installed (i.e., there is toner left in the used toner cartridge), the “Replace Toner” or “Low Toner” message will continue to appear on the screen. To clear this message, a new genuine Brother toner must be installed.
- Then open the front cover and remove the drum and toner.
In summary:
We recommend that you place the toner and drum assembly on a piece of paper in case you accidentally spill or scatter the toner.
- Hold the green lock lever button on the right side of the drum and lift the drum to remove the gray drum from the black drum.
- Gently shake the toner cartridge from side to side.
- Reinstall the toner cartridge into the drum unit.
- Put the drum and toner assembly back into the printer, then close the front cover.
- If the error is still not corrected, the toner cartridge is exhausted and should be replaced with a new, unused original Brother cartridge.
